a year of songs: number 41
- Thursday, October 8th: The fall, with the wet and yellow
streets, and the looking back. My wife puts sheets over sticks and rings
our big oak tree with them. It looks like ghosts dancing. Here is Number
41, "October Day".

the 52 song project
Into October the project survives. I've doubted it would a few times. Someone asked me today what it's done to my habits as a songwriter. One thing is how it's forced me to let go of agonizing over a word or a chord or a note. I overthink sometimes, and '52 Songs' has not allowed me to do that.
This is a shoreline on Gull Lake in Minnesota in October. I used to sing
at this resort quite often.
