a year of songs: number 27

I'm on the eastern slope of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Colorado where the Southwest really begins. I recorded #27 in a small meadow on the mountainside, so listen for the birds. It's all guess work where to position the mics when you hang them from a branch. The dry air has played havoc with my voice, as you might notice in the recording.

I enjoyed playing a Gibson Hummingbird guitar this week, to write this song and just for fun. Thank you to Mark Salisbury who brought it out just for me to see and play. It was purchased by his father for $250 in the early 1970s. That was a splurge for a lumberjack from the Oregon woods. He was laid off from his job a few weeks later and told Mark that if the timing had been different, he never would've bought his beloved Hummingbird. Now it's a treasured family heirloom.

A little celebration for some unrelated good news: the documentary "Paving the Way" for which I composed most of the music, won a "Telly Award" for its soundtrack. Brandon Wade, the filmmaker/author, said I can consider this award mine. The DVD is available on Netflix and can be purchased at Best Buy. The music is on iTunes here:

    The Project:
52 songs in 52 weeks from January 1 to December 24, 2009. I'm going to attempt to write a new song (or tackle old unfinished songs) at a pace of one per week.

I'll record them and post them here, as well as the 52 Songs facebook group and ReverbNation.com. I'm hoping you will take a few minutes to listen and/or download them (for free) and occasionally give me feedback. A few more details.
