Thursday, June 11th: A friend recently had a heart "event" and
subsequent procedures. He's a guy who does it all and makes it look easy.
I spoke with his wife this week and they know it's time for him to reorganize
some things in his life now. A brush with mortality is a form of shock treatment.
Here's Number 24, "Balance".
Hear the "Radio Heartland" interview about "52 Songs" with
Dale Connelly of Minnesota Public Radio.
Summer means I'm off to remote areas where I'll be singing
at camps. Families gather and I provide some music. I also get to
play guitar with the college aged staffs, and I'll find new ideas and new
music from listening to them. Being a solo artist brings a certain amount
of isolation, and I know how important it is to open up to other's ideas
about the music they love. These young people are my teachers, just as the
elderly are my teachers when I sing with them.
"52 Songs" will be creating conversation this summer. It's
already begun...
Geek-ish Notes: I've been asked to explain my setup
a little more. I use Logic 8.0 as my software on a 2.5 y/o MacBook Pro and
a PreSonus FirePod that has 8 mic/direct inputs. I have to work around some
latency problems when I do overdubs, and I'm starting to run into processor
challenges. I crash when I go crazy with lots of tracks. I remember to save
my work constantly. I backup
to 2 different hard drives as well. Thank goodness for that.
The Project:
52 songs in 52 weeks from January 1 to December 24, 2009. I'm going to attempt to write a new song (or tackle old unfinished songs) at
a pace of one per week.
