Thursday, April 30th: When in doubt, or when at a loss for
what to write about, go to what's in the heart. That takes me to Dad. Here's
number 18, "He Reminds Me":
Sean
asked, "I was wondering if you
have any comments on the experience of writing for volume this year and how
that may have caused some differences in the way you workup a song for recording?"
Sure has, Sean. Choices have to be made so I'm challenged
to be instinctive. I can talk myself into this by saying, "I can always
change a song if my instincts are wrong, if people's comments change my mind
(it's happened several times) or playing it live doesn't work. I have too
many songs 90% done and then put aside until I have the final "finishing"
moment. Most of the time, that moment never comes. Maybe I just have to let
it go, and this project makes me do that.
Next
week: making recording and production decisions in real time.
THE PROJECT: 52 songs in 52 weeks.
January
1st -December 24th, 2009.
I'm going to attempt to write a new song (or tackle old unfinished songs) at
a pace of one per week. I'll record them and post them here, as well as the 52
Songs facebook
group and ReverbNation.com.
I'm hoping you will take a few minutes to listen and/or download them (for free)
and occasionally give me feedback. A
few more details.
