Thursday, March 26th: A song I began in 1999 about
Jenny Stiles, a student I worked with in WA. I still remember how good she
was to everyone we encountered during my residency, me singing and her holding
their hands and lifting their spirits. Her death in an auto accident two
years later left me truly sad. The melody is much like Sheryl Crow's "Strong
Enough", but I don't want to change it. Here's number
13,
"Jenny Stiles".
I'm going to attempt to write a new song (or tackle old unfinished songs)
at a pace of one per week. I'll record them and post them here, as well as
my facebook
page and ReverbNation.com.
I'm hoping you will take a few minutes to listen and/or download them
(for free) and occasionally give me feedback.
52 songs in 52 weeks. Beginning January 1st.
A few disclaimers and ground rules:
1. I may cheat and do two songs some weeks and take a week off.
2. I may change something in a song as I hear your feedback, and as I get used to performing it. If you like the initial version, save it because it might change.
3. I'll try some new things. I may experiment with sounds and song structure. You're not going to like all my experiments.
4. At some point, I may move a song over to iTunes or Popcuts.com and sell it. Then I'll probably remove the free version.
I'll include the lyrics and a story if it's relevant to the song. Please suggest changes but don't be disappointed with me if I don't make the change.
THE KEY: I can only do this if I believe that others are in on this
project too. I need to hear from some of you or I'll never make it. And some
songs won't be that great, but I'll post them anyway.
