Thursday, February 5th: The photo of Pete Seeger singing
to the gathered throng at the "We Are One" pre-inaugural concert
sparked a song. He's 89, it's cold and he's like a ramrod-straight piece
of hickory, singing with joy in as patriotic moment as I can imagine. When
he sings "This Land Is Your Land", it makes me believe in our land.
A wiry old guy whose hands still pull amazing sounds out of those wires.
Here's Number 06, "The
Wiry Man".
I'm going to attempt to write a new song (or tackle old unfinished songs) at a pace of one per week. I'll record them and post them here, as well as my facebook
page and ReverbNation.com. I'm going to convince myself that you will take a few minutes to listen and/or download them (for free) and occasionally give me feedback.
52 songs in 52 weeks. Beginning January 1st.
A few disclaimers and ground rules:
1. I may cheat and do two songs some weeks and take a week off.
2. I may change something in a song as I hear your feedback, and as I get used to performing it. If you like the initial version, save it because it might change.
3. I'll try some new things. I may experiment with sounds and song structure. You're not going to like all my experiments.
4. At some point, I may move a song over to iTunes or Popcuts.com and sell it. Then I'll probably remove the free version.
I'll include the lyrics and a story if it's relevant to the song. Please suggest changes but don't be disappointed with me if I don't make the change.
THE KEY: I can only do this if I believe that others are in on this
project too. I need to hear from some of you or I'll never make it. And some
songs won't be that great, but I'll post them anyway.
